UTSAB (meaning celebration)-is a non-profit Association – committed to the promotion of our culture and values through various socio-cultural events like Saraswati Puja ,Durga Puja & Kali Pujo. It is our humble endeavour that our younger generation appreciate the beauty of our rich cultural heritage and join hands to ensure our cultural legacy continues to enthral the world. Durga puja transcends all barriers creating for us a home away from home. Please join us in this magnificent celebration of life as part of the UTSAB family.
Our purpose
The purpose of the Association is:
- Promote Hindu and Bengali Religious Practices: To provide a platform for the Hindu & Bengali community in the UK to engage in religious practices, including the observance of important festivals, pujas (prayers), and other sacred rituals.
- Create a Spiritual and Cultural Hub: To foster a sense of community by organising and hosting regular religious events, festivals, and cultural activities that align with Hindu & Bengali traditions and values.
- Support and Strengthen Hindu & Bengali Identity: To encourage members to stay connected with their Hindu heritage, ensuring that younger generations understand and appreciate the cultural and spiritual significance of Hinduism.
- Serve the Community: To provide a supportive environment for individuals and families in the Hindu & Bengali community, offering spiritual guidance, community support, and welfare services.
- Promote Interfaith Dialogue and Understanding: To share the values of Hinduism with the broader community, promoting respect, tolerance, and understanding across different faiths and cultures.
Activities:
The activities of the Utsab Bengali Association of Orpington will include:
- Annual Hindu & Bengali Festivals: Celebrating key Hindu & Bengali festivals such as Durga Puja, Saraswati Puja, Poila Boisakh (Bengali New Year) and others, through community gatherings, prayers, processions, and feasts.
- Educational Workshops and Classes: Hosting classes and workshops to educate members, especially the younger generation, about Hindu scriptures, customs, traditions, and philosophy (e.g., Bhagavad Gita, Ramayana, Vedas, etc.).
- Charity and Community Outreach: Engaging in charitable activities, such as organizing food drives, donations for the underprivileged, and supporting local charitable initiatives, all guided by the Hindu values of selfless service (Seva).
Cultural Events and Performances: Organising cultural programs that celebrate the diverse artistic heritage of Kolkata, such as classical dance, music, and drama, to bring the community together and showcase its traditions.
